Program Goals- Students will be able to perform medical coding and administrative duties essential for a successful career in Medical Coding.
- Students will follow ethical practices, communicate effectively, and behave professionally within the healthcare environment.
- Students will accumulate comprehensive knowledge and skills to prepare for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialing examination.
The program combines classroom learning with practical application. Students complete 60 credit hours total, including core courses in medical terminology, coding systems, healthcare law and ethics, and computerized medical office management. The curriculum prepares graduates to work with health insurance companies, file insurance claims, maintain medical records, and code diagnoses according to industry standards. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction and hands-on practice with medical coding software and health information management systems.
PrerequisitesStudents need to complete all general education requirements before beginning major courses. Most courses require successful completion of prerequisite classes with a grade of “C” or higher. Specific courses must receive a “C” or higher before students can begin Coding Cases Practice Experience.
