ABC Pelican states on its own apprenticeship page that it "is a Registered Apprenticeship Program Sponsor", that it registers apprentices with the U.S. Department of Labor, provides and supports the related technical instruction, and tracks on-the-job learning hours (abctraining.org/apprenticeship-1, retrieved 2026-08-26). Craft courses follow NCCER curricula and ABC Pelican administers NCCER knowledge assessments and performance verifications. No institutional accreditation is claimed anywhere on the site.
Self-paced. Average completion 4-6 semesters (2-3 years). Attend 2 nights (6-9pm) or 2 days (3-6pm) per week.

Baton Rouge Training Center, Southwest Training Center and, per the two course-offerings flyers, a set of host high schools: Assumption, Central, Plaquemine, Walker, West Feliciana and Zachary High Schools and the West Baton Rouge Career Academy near Baton Rouge; Iota, Rayne, Kinder, Singer, DeQuincy, Iowa, Sam Houston and Westlake High Schools and the T&I College Vocational Center as Southwest dual-enrollment sites.

Welding is a Certificate program offered by ABC Pelican Craft Training in Westlake, LA. The program takes Self-paced; typically 4-6 semesters to complete.

Admission Requirements and Process

Applications are taken on the printed Training Center Application linked from each center's APPLY NOW button, or in person at the training centers. NCCER Core is the prerequisite for the NCCER craft courses. An employer sponsor is optional; ABC Pelican enrols registered apprentices only through their employers, but individuals may enrol in the training programs without a sponsor.

    Submit Application
    Complete the online application form with your personal information and educational background.

    Submit Transcripts
    Provide official high school transcripts or GED certificate. Some programs may require additional documentation.

    Financial Aid
    Complete the FAFSA to determine eligibility for federal financial aid. Meet with a financial aid advisor to review your options.

No program tuition is published; prices are per semester. Baton Rouge Course Offerings (Fall 2026), AWS Welding: GBRIA/ICC Members $300, Pelican Members $900, Non-Members $1,600 per semester. Southwest Course Offerings (Fall 2026): $300 per semester. The Welding Program Overview PDF quotes a $300-$1,600 per-semester band. Welding is the one Baton Rouge craft that does not require NCCER Core first.
