What sets this Program apart

Students are trained by seasoned HVAC technicians that bring with them years of experience and a variety of industry-related certifications. This program prepares graduates for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry and is an excellent preparation tool for taking the HVAC Excellence or other industry-related certification exams. Students will have the opportunity to obtain certification in Section 608 EPA and R410A Refrigerant Safety and Handling.

Advanced Technology Institute is an ESCO Institute Testing Site and EPA Testing Site, and its HVAC programs qualify to meet educational requirements of DPOR HVAC journeymen licensure.

Recognized for opportunity. In 2025, Advanced Technology Institute was named an Opportunity College by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education.

Employers come to you. A Program Advisory Committee of local employers helps keep ATI's curriculum current, and employers recruit on campus year-round — through hiring events and ATI's annual Career Fair — so you can connect with them before you graduate.

Hands-on from day one. ATI's HVAC lab houses more than 35 residential and commercial systems for hands-on training in installation, service, duct fabrication, and brazing. You are issued your own tool kit — yours to keep upon graduation — and prepare for EPA Section 608 and R-410A certification and the HVAC Excellence exam, while the program meets the educational requirements for Virginia DPOR HVAC journeyman licensure.
