Program Overview

The CDL Training: Class A truck driver training program prepares students for entry level employment in the commercial driving field. The curriculum provides students with training to inspect and operate tractor trailers, and to assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspections, defensive driving, range maneuvers, motor carrier safety regulations (DOT 380 -397 and a certificate for entry-level drivers), trip planning, cargo handling, size/weight laws, general maintenance procedures, hours of service, and accident prevention. All training, instruction, and testing is done at school facilities or in school-provided equipment.

Skills you can learn.

  • CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Training: learn to conduct detailed vehicle inspections and identify potential safety issues in compliance with FMCSA CDL regulations. These skills are essential for passing the Arizona CDL test.
  • Tractor-Trailer Operation & Control: build confidence handling tractor-trailers, including backing, turning, and shifting techniques.
  • Road Test Preparation for CDL Class A: prepare for the CDL road test through hands-on driving practice, defensive driving strategies, and safe driving behavior under various conditions.
  • FMCSA-Compliant ELDT Instruction: complete both classroom and behind-the-wheel training that meets the Entry-Level Driver Training requirements set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Academic policy. This program is evaluated on a pass/fail basis. A student must achieve a grade of 80% or higher in order to advance. Progress evaluation is conducted after a student reaches 70 hours and again after they reach 120 hours.

Compliance with Federal Driving Qualifications. Successful completion of the Commercial Driver Training program does not guarantee employment or the issuance of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). All individuals seeking a CDL must meet the qualification standards set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Applicants must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official inquiries, and complete reports, as required by 49 CFR § 391.11(b)(2). Applicants are responsible for confirming their eligibility with their state licensing agency before enrollment.

Individuals holding a Class A license may operate Class B or C vehicles, provided they meet the endorsement criteria for the specific vehicles under the B or C classification. The CDL Class A program does not include training for obtaining these additional endorsements.
