Class A Barber is a Diploma program offered by Brighton Barber Institute in Hurst, TX. The program takes 1,000 clock hours — 35 hrs/week full-time, 17.5 part-time to complete, with a total tuition of $15,000.

Program Overview

Class A Barber is 1,000 clock hours — the Texas requirement — at 35 hours a week full-time or 17.5 part-time, for $17,150 either way.

This is the only one of the school's three programmes that takes federal aid. The catalog marks it as "the only program with Title IV eligibility".

Its 43-unit outline is unusually granular, splitting theory and practical for every subject — from bacteriology and sterilisation to men's haircutting and shaving — and it sums to exactly 1,000.

The science block alone is 107 hours: anatomy and physiology 50, scientific fundamentals 20, bacteriology, sterilisation and sanitation 15, disorders of skin, scalp and hair 10, chemistry 10 and the theory of massage 2.

What sets this Program apart

It publishes its class start dates more than a year ahead. Its application lists thirteen starts from 8 September 2026 through 15 November 2027, roughly every five weeks. You can plan around a real date rather than "ask us".

Every programme runs full-time or part-time, at the same price — Class A Barber and Instructor 500 at 35 or 17.5 hours a week, the 300-hour crossover at 25 or 12.5.

Read the Instructor 500 footnote before you pay for it. The catalog states that programme "does not lead to licensure per TDLR change of rules". It is on that programme's page here, in the first paragraph.

Only one of its three programmes takes federal aid. The catalog marks Class A Barber as "the only program with Title IV eligibility".

Running past your contracted end date costs $25 an hour — and so do no-call/no-show hours. Neither is inside any published total.

It explains the loan origination fee, which almost no school does. The catalog states that 1.057% is deducted by the Department of Education before funds reach the school, and that this amount is added to self-pay totals so students do not end up underpaying. That is unusually careful.

What it costs. $15,000 tuition, a $1,500 student kit, $500 eBook and digital programme and a $150 non-refundable registration fee — $17,150 in total.

This is the only programme here that takes federal aid. The catalog marks it as "the only program with Title IV eligibility" — the 300-hour crossover and Instructor 500 do not qualify.

Two charges sit outside the total above. A $25 online application fee is taken at signup and is non-refundable. And if you have not finished within your contracted time, the school charges $25 per clock hour until you do — the same rate it applies to no-call/no-show hours. Ask how many students finish inside contract before you plan on the published price.

Other published charges: a $200 re-admission fee with a new enrollment agreement, a $10 transcript fee (the first copy at graduation is free) and $0.20 per page for copies of records. The $150 registration fee inside the total is non-refundable.

It spells out the loan origination fee. The catalog explains that the Department of Education deducts 1.057% of subsidised and unsubsidised direct loans before disbursing (until 1 October 2026), and that the school adds that amount back into self-pay totals so the deduction does not leave you owing the school.

No net price calculator and no published federal school code. All 23 pages of the school's site were enumerated and none carries a calculator; its financial-aid page tells you to "use Brighton Barber Institute's school code" without printing it. Ask the school for the code and for a written cost estimate before you file a FAFSA.

Curriculum

The catalog publishes a General Course Outline of 43 units with hours for each, summing to exactly 1,000. Theory units are marked separately from practical ones.

The science of barbering is taught as its own block — 107 hours covering anatomy and physiology (50), scientific fundamentals (20), bacteriology, sterilisation and sanitation (15), disorders of the skin, scalp and hair (10), chemistry (10) and the theory of massage of the scalp, face and neck (2).

Professional barbering theory covers sanitary professional techniques, shaving and facial hair care and design, shampooing and conditioning, and haircutting, moustaches and beards.

The bulk of the programme is practical, and the outline lists each practical unit with its own hours rather than lumping them into one clinic figure — so you can see where the time actually goes before you enrol.

All 43 rows add up to the published 1,000, which is worth saying: several schools reviewed alongside this one print outlines that do not.

Licensing. The school is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and prepares students for the state board examination, with chapter tests and state board prep tests through the course.

No completion, licensure or placement rates are published in this catalog, and this page does not estimate any. The school states it "reports performance rates based on NACCAS standard", so it holds them — ask for its most recent NACCAS annual report rates in writing.
