Program Overview

Read this first. The catalog states that this programme "does not lead to licensure per TDLR change of rules". It is a 500-hour instructor course that, on the school's own account, no longer produces an instructor licence in Texas. Ask the school and the TDLR exactly what it does qualify you for before you pay for it.

Instructor 500 is 500 clock hours at 35 hours a week full-time or 17.5 part-time, for $3,650 — the school's cheapest programme, and the only one that requires no student kit.

Three quarters of it is practical. 375 of the 500 hours are practical, 250 of them student assistance — supervising learners on the clinic floor.

It does not take federal aid either; only Class A Barber does.

What sets this Program apart

It publishes its class start dates more than a year ahead. Its application lists thirteen starts from 8 September 2026 through 15 November 2027, roughly every five weeks. You can plan around a real date rather than "ask us".

Every programme runs full-time or part-time, at the same price — Class A Barber and Instructor 500 at 35 or 17.5 hours a week, the 300-hour crossover at 25 or 12.5.

Read the Instructor 500 footnote before you pay for it. The catalog states that programme "does not lead to licensure per TDLR change of rules". It is on that programme's page here, in the first paragraph.

Only one of its three programmes takes federal aid. The catalog marks Class A Barber as "the only program with Title IV eligibility".

Running past your contracted end date costs $25 an hour — and so do no-call/no-show hours. Neither is inside any published total.

It explains the loan origination fee, which almost no school does. The catalog states that 1.057% is deducted by the Department of Education before funds reach the school, and that this amount is added to self-pay totals so students do not end up underpaying. That is unusually careful.

Cost of Attendance and Financial Aid Information

What it costs. $3,000 tuition and no student kit — this programme requires none, $500 eBook and digital programme and a $150 non-refundable registration fee — $3,650 in total.

This programme does not take federal aid, and the catalog states it does not lead to licensure following a TDLR rule change. Both are worth confirming with the school in writing before you pay.

Two charges sit outside the total above. A $25 online application fee is taken at signup and is non-refundable. And if you have not finished within your contracted time, the school charges $25 per clock hour until you do — the same rate it applies to no-call/no-show hours. Ask how many students finish inside contract before you plan on the published price.

Other published charges: a $200 re-admission fee with a new enrollment agreement, a $10 transcript fee (the first copy at graduation is free) and $0.20 per page for copies of records. The $150 registration fee inside the total is non-refundable.

It spells out the loan origination fee. The catalog explains that the Department of Education deducts 1.057% of subsidised and unsubsidised direct loans before disbursing (until 1 October 2026), and that the school adds that amount back into self-pay totals so the deduction does not leave you owing the school.

No net price calculator and no published federal school code. All 23 pages of the school's site were enumerated and none carries a calculator; its financial-aid page tells you to "use Brighton Barber Institute's school code" without printing it. Ask the school for the code and for a written cost estimate before you file a FAFSA.

Curriculum

The catalog publishes a General Course Outline of 14 units summing to exactly 500 — 125 hours of theory and 375 practical.

Practical: Student Assistance — 250 hours, half the programme, spent helping students on the floor under supervision.

The rest of the practical block: teaching a theory class (50 hours), office procedures and state laws (50) and grading test papers (25). Learning to grade and to run the office is unusual to see costed out, and it is what the job actually involves.

The theory is 125 hours across ten units: principles of teaching and basic teaching methods (20); lesson planning, development of a barber course, and personality and professional conduct (15 each); and student learning principles, teaching aids, testing, self-evaluation, teaching adults, and classroom problems and management (10 each).

All of which is worth weighing against the licensure footnote above. The curriculum is a real instructor curriculum; what the catalog says it no longer does is produce a licence.

Career Outcomes

Licensing. The school is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and prepares students for the state board examination, with chapter tests and state board prep tests through the course.

No completion, licensure or placement rates are published in this catalog, and this page does not estimate any. The school states it "reports performance rates based on NACCAS standard", so it holds them — ask for its most recent NACCAS annual report rates in writing.

What to expect as a Brighton Barber Institute student

Where you learn. One campus, 133 W Harwood Rd, Hurst, Texas, near DFW — 3,314 square feet with a classroom of computer stations and a 24-station clinic floor.
