Program Overview
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program is a 70 semester hour program that offers a bridge option for licensed practical nurses (LPNs). The curriculum is designed to prepare highly educated, technically competent, and caring individuals who are prepared to practice professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. Students are required to make a minimum grade of (C) in all courses each term for progression.
Nursing’s foundation consists of compassionate nursing care and exemplifies current standards of practice and current scientific /technological knowledge. Nursing involves holistic care that is concerned with improving the quality of life, psychosocial needs, promoting, maintaining, and restoring health or a peaceful dignified death. This is accomplished by collaborating with individuals, families, groups, communities and other healthcare team members. Nursing is a rational activity that encompasses the nursing process, problem solving, clinical decision-making, critical thinking, standards and ethics to find therapeutic, safe, accurate, interventions that support health promotion, restoration, maintenance and reduce healthcare risks and complications. These therapeutic nursing interventions are planned and informed actions that move individuals, families, groups and communities toward achievement of expected outcomes. The nurse manages care by using factors of caring, compassion, the nursing process, communication, ethical principles, scientific principles, standards of care, critical thinking, accountability, teaching and learning activities, and healthcare technology. Nursing manages healthcare resources efficiently and effectively through responsible management of nursing care and through collaboration with other health care team members.

All pre-requisite courses and occupational courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C or better.
Applicants for bridge program must have a current Georgia license as a practical nurse.

Program graduates who meet graduation requirements are eligible to apply to the Georgia Board of Nursing to write the national licensure examination (NCLEX) to become registered nurses (RNs). The faculty believes Associate Degree Nursing Education prepares students for entry into professional nursing practice and the ability to provide care in a variety of settings. This education provides a foundation for continued learning in formal and informal settings. Graduates are eligible to apply for advanced nursing programs in neighboring university systems. The ADN curriculum has been accepted by both Columbus State University and Troy University RN - BSN Bridge Program for advanced degrees.
