The Practical Nursing Program at Flint Hills Technical College is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure and certification in the State of Kansas. Individuals seeking licensure or certification in a state other than Kansas should consult the licensing requirements of the appropriate state nursing board. Since requirements vary by state, it is important to verify that all criteria are met prior to pursuing licensure. Students are encouraged to contact the nursing board in the state where they intend to practice for further guidance. The Practical Nursing Program Alignment was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in June 2008. After going through the realignment process with the Kansas Council of Practical Nurse Educators (KCPNE), the Kansas Board of Nursing (KSBN) approved the amended Practical Nursing Program Alignment on July 28, 2023, and the Technical Education Authority on November 16, 2023. The Kansas State Board of Nursing recommends the current curriculum requirements for accredited nursing programs as defined in the Nurse Practice Act be utilized as the basis for alignment. Participants must sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) exam. All students should obtain the Practical Nurse (PN) credential which is required for employment. Colleges may choose to require an active Certified Nurse Aide credential for entrance into PN programs.
