Aesthetics is a Diploma program offered by Franklin Hair Academy School of Cosmetology in Franklin, TN. The program takes 750 clock hours — 22 weeks to the final evaluation to complete, with a total tuition of $7,500.

Program Overview

The Aesthetics programme is 750 clock hours, half the length of the cosmetology course, and the academy teaches it in a dedicated aesthetics room and aesthetics classroom rather than on the main floor. Its stated objective is to "Prepare the student for the State Board Examination and for salon work" in the aesthetics field.

Three fifths of the course is hands-on skin work. The Physical band alone is 450 of the 750 hours, led by application of products and machines at 120 hours, manipulations of facials at 96 and make-up applications at 96.

It is the academy’s most clinically-oriented course. The Chemical band spends 66 hours on skin diseases alone — more than the whole of anatomy and physiology — alongside product ingredients and products and their uses. The catalog describes the work it prepares you for as "aesthetician, spa owner, work at a doctor’s office, makeup artist, platform artist and product demonstrator", which is a wider range of settings than the other three courses name.

What sets this Program apart

You can start any Monday of any month. This is the most practical thing the academy publishes about itself, and it is unusual: "Franklin Hair Academy School of Cosmetology offers classes year-round. Any eligible person may enroll any day of the week of any month that the school is in session. Classes begin on Mondays of each week." Most schools in this field run two to four cohort starts a year, so a decision made in February does not mean waiting until September.

It is a small school, and says so with a number. "The class size at Franklin Hair Academy School of Cosmetology is 20 students to an instructor." The catalog gives the reason in its own words: "We hope by keeping a small class we are able to give the student, the time and individual attention to make sure you are ready to pass the state board of cosmetology." The whole academy occupies 2,454 square feet on one floor — an administrative office, reception, senior clinic, dispensary, basics and junior classrooms, and a separate aesthetics room and aesthetics classroom.

Five published schedules, not one. The catalog prints two full-time and three part-time patterns with their own completion times, from 8 months at 32 weeks on the heavier full-time track to 25 months at 100 weeks part-time. That is a real choice, printed in advance rather than negotiated after you enrol.

Testing and textbooks in three languages. "All courses are taught in English; however, State Board Testing & Textbooks also available in Spanish and Vietnamese."

What it will not promise. On jobs the academy is blunt: it "considers job placement to be the primary responsibility of the student", will help with interviewing, résumé preparation and letters of recommendation, and "cannot promise or guarantee employment for graduates". Read that as candour rather than as a weakness — it is the same catalog that publishes its NACCAS completion, placement and licensure rates.

Program Schedule

Aesthetics is 750 clock hours. The academy’s evaluation schedule puts the mid-point at 375 hours / 11 weeks and the final evaluation at 750 hours / 22 weeks.

Start dates: any Monday. The academy runs year-round and states that any eligible person may enrol any day of any month the school is in session, with classes beginning on Mondays of each week.

The five published schedules. The catalog prints these patterns and their completion times: FT1 Monday–Thursday 9:00–5:30 and Friday 8:30–3:30, 10 months / 40 weeks; FT2 Monday–Wednesday 8:00–6:00, Thursday 9:00–7:30 and Friday 8:30–4:30, 8 months / 32 weeks; PT1 Monday–Wednesday 9:00–2:00, 25 months / 100 weeks; PT2 Tuesday and Thursday 9:00–6:00, 22 months / 88 weeks; PT3 Wednesday–Friday 11:00–4:30, 23 months / 92 weeks. These are the academy’s published options for its clock-hour courses; confirm which apply to this programme on your enrolment agreement.

The hours you may bank. Tennessee law caps credited attendance at 10 clock hours a day and 48 a week; the catalog states hours over 10 in a day are not credited. The academic year is 900 hours.

Absence is built into the contract. Rather than excused and unexcused absences, the academy "build[s] time into the contract to allow for absences for each student that will not be charged", and holidays and weather closures are not counted as absences. Going past your contract end date is charged at $11.50 per hour. That figure is the reason to take the schedule choice seriously: on a 22-week course an overrun is expensive relative to the $7,500 tuition, so agree a realistic schedule before you sign.

Graduating. Evaluations fall at 375 hours / 11 weeks and 750 / 22. To graduate you need a cumulative GPA of 75% or above, the required hours, all payment obligations met, and the Tennessee-required domestic violence training completed.

Why Accreditation Is Important

Attending an accredited school means its training has been reviewed against independent standards that protect students.

This school: Franklin Hair Academy School of Cosmetology is accredited by NACCAS, authorised by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and regulated by the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners. NACCAS’s own public directory lists the academy (school 052072-00) as Accredited, last changed 9 May 2025, first accredited in 2011, next renewal May 2031 — and lists all four of its programmes at hours matching the catalog exactly.

Cost of Attendance and Financial Aid Information

Cost and Financial Aid Information is an estimate for general reference only. It is not an offer or guarantee of financial aid or of any price, and what a School charges you may differ.
Total Program Tuition
≈ $7,500
Total Program Cost

FAFSA Code

What this programme costs. The catalog’s Tuition block for Aesthetics lists a $125 registration fee, $1,300 equipment and books and $7,500 tuition, for a printed total of $8,925.

How this listing adds it up. The academy prints all four lines and the total, and the total adds up exactly. Note that unlike many schools, the $125 registration fee is inside the academy’s own printed total — so it appears twice on this page, once as a cost line because the catalog counts it in the total, and once in the Application Fee box because that box is where this listing always puts an application or registration fee. It is charged once.

Federal aid: the school code is published. The academy’s Financial Aid page prints its FAFSA school code, 042036 — and that matches the U.S. Department of Education’s own record for this school, so you can file with it. The page states students may be eligible for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans and additional federal assistance based on individual eligibility.

Paying the rest. The academy accepts cash, credit card, money order, cashier’s cheque or financial aid, and offers structured payment plans including 0% in-house financing. Instalments are set out on your individual enrolment agreement. There is a 10% discount for payment in full in cash, and a 2% interest charge each month a payment is late.

Other charges to know about. Transferring in costs $100 on admission; re-enrolling after a withdrawal costs $100 with tuition pro-rated, and usable books and kit may be reused rather than repurchased. If you withdraw, the refund policy applies a $150 administrative fee, and cancellation before instruction begins refunds everything except the $125 registration fee. Exceeding your contract end date costs $11.50 an hour. The state licensing application and its fees are paid to PSI, not to the academy, and are not part of these figures.

Curriculum

The catalog publishes the state-required apportionment of the 750 hours across three bands, and the twelve printed units sum to exactly 750.

Physical work is 450 hours — 60% of the course. Application of products and machines takes 120 hours, the largest single unit; facials, arching, lash and brow tinting 114; manipulations of facials 96; make-up applications 96; and waxing 24.

The Chemical band is 150 hours and is largely about the skin itself: skin diseases 66 hours, products and their uses 48, and product ingredients 36. Sixty-six hours on skin diseases is a substantial contraindications grounding, and it is the reason this course sits closer to clinical practice than the cosmetology programme’s 75 hours of facials and tinting.

The General band is 150 hours: sterilisation, sanitation and bacteriology 54, shop ethics, personality and salesmanship 48 (which the academy states includes professionalism, résumé development, interview preparation and job search skills), anatomy and physiology 24 and state law 24.

Compare with cosmetology if you are choosing: the 1,500-hour cosmetology course gives skin 75 hours in total. This one gives it roughly 500. If skin is the work you want, the shorter course teaches far more of it.

Career Outcomes

Licensing. Tennessee licensure follows completion of the required hours and a written and practical exam, with the application and fees paid to PSI, which examines at a Nashville location. NACCAS lists Aesthetics at 750 hours for this school, matching the catalog exactly, and the academy is authorised by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and regulated by the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners.

The academy publishes its outcome rates. The catalog prints its 2023 NACCAS Annual Report figures: completion 80.00%, placement 66.67%, licensure 89.47%. These are institution-wide rates for the 2023 reporting year covering all programmes, not per-programme rates for this one, and they are three reporting years old. NACCAS-accredited schools file these annually, so ask the admissions office for the most recent year in writing before you enrol.

On jobs, the academy is explicit about whose job it is. It "considers job placement to be the primary responsibility of the student"; staff will assist with interviewing, résumé preparation and letters of recommendation, but the academy "cannot promise or guarantee employment for graduates".

Two things this listing will not repeat from the catalog. First, the catalog’s job-outlook appendix quotes national employment figures from 2004 and a magazine ranking of the same vintage; those are two decades old and are not reproduced here. The one local figure it gives — that in Nashville cosmetologists "can expect to earn $25,000–60,000 per year" — is the academy’s statement, not a current survey, and should be checked against present Bureau of Labor Statistics data for the Nashville area. Second, the catalog’s table of contents promises a Gainful Employment Information disclosure for each of the four programmes on pages 41–44, but those pages carry the job-outlook appendix, the teach-out policy and the signature page instead — the disclosures are not in the document. Ask the academy for them directly.

What to expect as a Franklin Hair Academy School of Cosmetology student

Where you learn. The academy is at 595 Hillsboro Road, Suite 325, Franklin, Tennessee. It occupies 2,454 square feet containing an administrative office, a reception area, a senior clinic, a dispensary, basics and junior classrooms, an aesthetics room and an aesthetics classroom, with styling stations, shampoo bowls, sterilisers, manicuring tables, mannequins, dryers and a student break area. The clinic is on the ground floor and there is a handicapped restroom.

How you are taught. The catalog names the methods for this course: academics are theory, workbooks, class assignments, tests, lab testing and instructional video; practical work is daily task sheets, demonstrations, salon services of clients and sanitation procedures. You work on paying clients in the academy’s own clinic.

What you buy. Equipment and books for Aesthetics are $1,300, inside the academy’s printed total — less than cosmetology’s $2,000 and more than manicuring’s $1,100. If you re-enrol after withdrawing and your books and kit are in good operable condition, the catalog states you may reuse them.

How you are graded. Theory and practical exams are marked 94–100 Excellent, 87–93 Very Good, 80–86 Average, 75–79 Pass, and below 74 unsatisfactory. Clinical work is graded mastered or not mastered.

Attendance. Students must attend at least 70% of the hours possible on their schedule. Progress is evaluated at set points — 375 hours / 11 weeks and 750 / 22 — and the maximum time frame for this programme is 1,072.5 hours (143% of the course).

To graduate you must complete the work assignments, hold a cumulative GPA of 75% or above, complete the required hours, and fulfil all payment obligations. Tennessee also requires domestic violence training before graduation, which the academy states is required once you graduate and become licensed.

Housing. There are no dormitories; the catalog states administration can assist in finding suitable living arrangements.
