Program Overview

Dental hygienists provide educational, clinical, and therapeutic services to the public focusing on disease prevention and health promotion. They also help patients develop and maintain good oral health. The Dental Hygiene program provides stimulating and rigorous classroom and clinical experience in Hawkeye’s Dental Clinic. Students are educated in oral and dental hygiene sciences, natural sciences, clinical sciences, community health, and professional development. Students train in Hawkeye's state-of-the-art Dental Clinic featuring 25 patient chairs, computerized patient record software, computer stations, and a complete digital x-ray system. The clinic is open to the public. Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) is the designation for the licensed professional. The Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
