Program Overview

Consistent with and complementary to the mission of Hawkeye Community College, the MLT program prepares men and women for entry-level work in a medical laboratory while under the supervision of a medical technologist, pathologist, or physician. The program provides training in routine procedures in microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, serology and urinalysis. The program also provides education and experience in the necessary interpersonal skills for satisfactory performance as a member of the health care delivery team. Graduates of the MLT Program receive an associates in applied science degree from Hawkeye Community College and are eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification Examination for Medical Laboratory Technicians.
