Instructor is a Certificate program (Hybrid) offered by International Beauty Education Center in Spokane, WA. The program takes 16 weeks full time to complete, with a total tuition of $9,500.
Program Overview
The Instructor course is 500 clock hours, the hours Washington requires for instructor training, preparing licensed professionals to teach cosmetology, manicuring, esthetics, barbering, hair design or instructor training. Half, 250 hours, is distance theory in lesson planning, classroom management and teaching methods.
The course is taught mainly through demonstration and practice. You begin by observing theory and practical sessions, and once the beginning competencies are complete you move to the salon floor to teach students in all phases of salon services: preparing classes, presenting lectures and demonstrations, supervising the clinic, managing the classroom and evaluating students. The textbook is Milady Master Educator.

Theory is done at home, and neither the catalog nor the website lists fixed campus days for instructor training, so arrange your teaching schedule with admissions. A flexible schedule needs the school director's approval. Satisfactory progress is evaluated at 250 actual hours.

Cost of Attendance and Financial Aid Information
Cost of the course. The catalog revised March 1, 2026 prices Instructor at $9,949: tuition $9,500, a $100 registration fee $100, books $349. The catalog also refers to a separate tuition and fees addendum for up-to-date prices; the consumer information page lists one but links no document, so this page uses the catalog.
Federal aid. The school is approved by the U.S. Department of Education for Federal Pell Grants, Direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans and Parent PLUS loans, and publishes cost-of-attendance budgets for this course. File the FAFSA with school code 042529; the catalog notes that not every aid programme is available in every course. Credit balances are paid by check within 14 days. Military spouses may qualify for up to $4,000 through the MyCAA scholarship, and dislocated or unemployed workers for Washington's Worker Retraining tuition assistance. You keep satisfactory progress with 67% attendance and a 75% grade average, checked at set hours; a student who falls short goes on warning, can appeal within 10 days and may continue on probation with an academic plan.
Other charges. Training after your scheduled graduation date may be billed at $10 an hour. Transfer students may pay a $450 state board exam preparation fee, extra transcripts cost $5, and a returned check costs $25. Re-entering after 180 days means a new $100 registration fee and the tuition rates current at the time. Washington's exam and licence fees are paid to the Department of Licensing. You may buy your books, kit and uniform from the school or from other suppliers, and the school may require an adult guarantor on the enrollment agreement. Payment is accepted by cash, card, check, money order, government agency or financial aid.
Cancelling and refunds. Cancel in writing within three business days of signing and everything is refunded; cancel after that but before classes start and everything but the $100 registration fee is refunded. Once you start, the school keeps a share of total tuition based on scheduled hours: 20% up to 4.9% of the course, 30% to 9.9%, 40% to 14.9%, 45% to 24.9%, 70% to 49.9%, and all of it from 50%. A student who withdraws before finishing is charged a $150 withdrawal fee, and books, kits and uniforms cannot be returned once issued. Refunds are paid within 45 days, after any return of Title IV funds is calculated. An unpaid balance carries no interest for six months, then 5%, and may be sent to collections.

Career Outcomes
The catalog lists salon manager, salon owner, manufacturer representative, trainer and school owner among the roles this course prepares you for.
Licensing. Washington requires 500 hours of instructor training and passing the state instructor written and practical exams with 75% or more. To graduate you complete the course hours, pass every written and practical exam and a final exam with 75% or above, finish your exit paperwork and settle what you owe; you then receive a Certificate of Completion and an official transcript.
Published outcomes. For the 2024 NACCAS annual report period, the school reports a 96.52% graduation rate, 95.00% licensure rate and 75.44% placement rate for all programmes together. It notes that the placement rate covers only graduates it could contact. The school cannot guarantee employment, but it posts openings on its "Beauty Career & Jobs Connection" job page, trains students in professionalism and job search, and keeps a network of professionals and employers who mentor students.
What to expect as a International Beauty Education Center student
The school. International Beauty Education Center is a private, for-profit beauty school in a 5,300 square foot space at 4750 North Division Street, in Northtown Mall, Spokane. The esthetics room has a facial waxing station and five or more facial beds, the manicuring room four or more nail tables, and the hair room eight stations with a separate shampoo area. There is a library of books and videos, a first aid station, and surveillance cameras; the building is smoke free. The catalog gives an average of 20 students per teacher and at most 40 per class schedule. Northtown Mall has parking, and buses stop every half hour.
How hybrid classes work. You do theory at home in an online distance-learning account, on your own internet-connected device, and come to campus two days a week, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, for practical classes. Every test that counts toward your grade is taken on campus, and your distance work is assessed on campus at least once a month. Distance hours show on your transcript as distance education and may not be accepted for licensure in other states. Up to 10% of your hours can come from an approved externship.
Day to day. You clock in and out with a palm scanner at the front desk. A 30-minute unpaid lunch is deducted on days over five hours, and a full day allows two 10-minute breaks. Report absences to 509-768-7325 only. Esthetics, master esthetics and manicuring students wear black scrubs; everyone wears clean, closed-toe shoes, with no ripped clothing, gym wear or flip-flops. Take your kit and belongings home or lock them each day, and join the general clean-up at day end. The school closes for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, plus spring and winter breaks. It provides no housing and no health insurance.
