Exercise and Sport Science

Keiser University uses a one-class-at-a-time model on four-week terms, with new classes starting every month and small classes averaging about a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Day, evening, and online options are available at select campuses.

The Associate of Science in Exercise and Sport Science totals 61 credit hours across 18 courses and takes approximately 18 months to complete (time to completion is an estimate that can vary with transfer credits and course load; up to 12 transfer credits may be accepted). The program is offered on-campus, online, and hybrid.

Students must complete Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with a grade of "C" or higher before beginning major coursework. The curriculum culminates in two required hands-on field placements, Exercise and Sport Science HHP Externship I and II (3.0 credit hours each), in fitness, wellness, and sports performance settings.

The 61-credit curriculum combines 26 credit hours of major coursework (including fitness assessment, kinesiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, and two externships), 9 credit hours of electives, and 36 credit hours of general education. Representative courses are listed below.

Completing the 61-credit program at a full-time pace generally spans about four semesters, for an estimated tuition of roughly $49,600 before aid. Enrollment also includes a one-time $55 application fee and a one-time $145 registration fee. Some courses may carry required or optional resource/lab fees, which are defined in the university catalog or supplement and listed on your billing statement; ask your Program Director or Admissions Counselor for the fees specific to your schedule.

Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles as Fitness Practitioners and Exercise Specialists, pursuing careers in fitness facilities, wellness centers, athletic training environments, and sports performance settings. Typical positions include personal trainer, group fitness instructor, wellness coordinator, fitness center staff, and strength and conditioning support roles.

The program builds a foundation for pursuing voluntary industry certifications from organizations such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE). This associate degree is not a licensure program; it also serves as a pathway into Keiser University's Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science for students seeking further advancement.
