Medical Radiologic Technology — Associate in Applied Science

Our Associate in Applied Science (AAS) two-year degree in Radiology is 76 credit hours and will equip you to enter the job market skilled and employable.

Lawson State offers both a degree and certification program in Medical Radiologic Technology. The AAS (Associate in Applied Science) degree has NO limitations, but the Certificate does have limitations.

Mission Statement: The mission of the A.A.S. Degree Medical Radiologic Technology Program is to prepare students to become competent entry-level radiographers and to promote student success and growth in the profession. The Program provides affordable and accessible quality educational opportunities through innovation, leadership, community development, and partnerships.

Application Due Date: All applications are due on June 1st by 11:59 p.m. for acceptance for the fall term. NOTE: All applications MUST be submitted to the online portal (under Step 7) and be complete with all required attachments, including unofficial transcripts, ACT scores, etc... Failure to submit a completed application by the posted deadline will VOID that application. Applications are NOT accepted by mail, fax, or email.

The Medical Radiologic Technology Program (MRT) is a selective admissions program that requires a special application and has specific application requirements. The application to the MRT program is competitive and meeting application requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program. It is strongly recommended that the pre-professional courses be completed before applying to the MRT program.

Eligiblity to Apply: Each student is assessed by a Point System. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA on the courses listed below and have an 18 on the ACT or ACT Residual to apply to the RAD Tech. Program. They must also complete specific pre-requisite courses. Grades from all pre-requisite courses are used to evaluate entrance into the program.

Step 1: Apply to the college and get accepted first. Your status at Lawson must be Active.

Step 2: Ensure you have a Lawson State GPA of 2.0 or higher. Current or previous Lawson State students must a have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at Lawson State or your most recent college GPA must be a 2.0 or higher.

Step 3: Confirm and Validate you have an 18 ACT Score. All applications must have a score of 18 or higher on the ACT to apply to the RAD Tech Program. A minimum composite score of 18 is required (Reading, Math and English) and Science score of 18. ACT SuperScores of 18 or higher are accepted. There is no expiration on test dates. ACT On-Campus (formerly ACT Residual) scores MUST be from an Alabama Community College.

Step 4a: Complete Pre-requisite Courses before Applying (for AAS Degree Seeking Students ONLY). NOTE: GPA must be 2.5 for all pre-reqs. combined. Students can still apply even if all courses (listed below) have not been completed, but to increase your chances of being accepted, it is strongly recommended that you complete each class prior to applying: ORI 101 or ORI 101T Orientation to College; ENG 101 English Composition; SPH 107 Fundamentals of Speech; MTH 100 or Higher Level; *BIO 201 Anatomy & Physiology I (NOTE: *BIO103 is a pre-requisite to BIO201); BIO 202 Anatomy & Physiology II; PSY200 General Psychology; HUM101 Humanities (Elective).

Step 5: Secure your Unofficial Transcripts from all Colleges. You must upload ALL unofficial transcripts to your RAD TECH application regardless of whether or not they were previously submitted to the Admissions office.

Step 6: Secure a copy of your official ACT scores. You will have to upload your scores to your online application.

Step 7: Submit your RAD Tech application by the deadline (June 1 by 11:59 p.m.). ONLY completed applications will be considered. For Fall Admissions, submit by June 1, by 11:59 p.m.
