Professional Pilot (AAS)

• The Professional Pilot program offers students the opportunity to enter the aviation career field as well as earn FAA certifications at different levels. The department works closely with the FAA to maintain accreditation status and awareness of industry changes and regulations.
• Program Highlights
• Graduates may be eligible for employment with the flight school partner as a Certified Flight Instructor dependent on staffing needs and graduate's class/flight performance.
• Credentials and Careers
• The level 2 certificate in the professional pilot program is designed for the student who wants to take the steps toward a career in aviation or would like to advance in an already established career in aviation. Students will complete the academic course work and flight training needed to earn the FAA Private Pilot, Instrument, and Commercial certifications. Credits earned in the certificate may be applied to the Associate of Applied Science in Professional Pilot.
• The Associate of Applied Science in Professional Pilot includes general education courses and a preset selection of aviation classes closely mapped to the needs and demands of the aviation industry. The program is designed to prepare the individual for a career as a commercial pilot by earning eligibility to take Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) license/certification exams for Private Pilot certification

• Transferability
• Program graduates may further their education at Lone Star College by applying to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy, Manufacturing, and Trades Management.
• General education courses (Core) are designated for easy transfer to Texas public institutions and applicable to requirements at private and out-of-state institutions.
• Technical coursework may be transferrable to other institutions.
• Please consult with a program advisor for more information about transferability.

• In addition to the general admission requirements of Lone Star College, Professional Pilot students participate in a competitive admissions process which includes the following standards:
• Applicants with completed college-level credit
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for all college-level coursework, and
• Minimum of a 'C' grade in any previously completed, college-level courses required for the degree.
• Applicants with no previous college-level credit
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all high school coursework completed within 3 years of the date of application, and
• Minimum of a 'B' grade in all previously completed high school courses.
• All applicants:
• College-level readiness in Math, Reading, and Writing.
• Attendance at a Professional Pilot student information session.
• Evidence of an application for a Class II or better FAA medical exam.
• FTN number from the IACRA website indicating an application has been made for an FAA Student Pilot License.
• Flight experience: a "discovery" flight or a logbook showing any flight training hours.
• Per FAA Regulations, students are required to provide evidence of US Citizenship or authorized residency for international students (i.e. Resident Alien)
• Completed interview with Professional Pilot department representatives.
• Completion of the Aviation Aptitude Assessment (available at LSC Testing Centers) with a score of 50 or above.

• Prerequisite: Concurrent Completion of the requirements for the Professional Pilot, Level 2 Certificate (37 Credit Hours)
• This award requires 60 credit hours in total; the course list below is the 23 credit hours specific to it.
• Lone Star College reports 1344 contact hours for this award.
• Where the course list shows "Choose N credit hours", those courses are the options for one elective slot, not additional requirements.

• Demonstrate understanding of weather conditions related to flight.
• Demonstrate proficiency of skills required for FAA exams.
• Operate an aircraft safely in the national airspace system.
• Explain the physical systems associated with an aircraft.
• Demonstrate mathematical skills required for flight planning and operation.
• Apply essential computer skills.

• Tuition shown is the in-district rate of $111.00 per credit hour for 60 credit hours.
• Out-of-district Texas residents pay $249.00 per credit hour ($14,940.00); international and out-of-state students pay $313.00 per credit hour ($18,780.00).
• Lab fees vary by course and liability insurance, uniforms and supplies vary by program, so Lone Star College publishes no all-in total for this award. Tuition above excludes them.
• Financial aid and payment plans are available to most students.
• Application fee: none. Lone Star College applications are free.

A pilot license is required in order to progress through and complete the program. FAA regulations stipulate that certain criminal offenses will result in denial of an application for, or suspension or revocation of, any certificate, rating, or authorization. Please refer to the Code of Federal Regulations 14 CFR Part 61 for more information.

The Professional Pilot Program is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Part 141 institution.

• Students who are classified as First Time in College (FTIC) will complete EDUC 1300 - Learning Framework: First Year Experience.
• Students who are not classified as First Time in College (FTIC) and have not yet demonstrated college-level readiness in reading and writing, will complete EDUC 1300 - Learning Framework: First Year Experience.
