Diagnostic Medical & Vascular Sonography (AAS)

• The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diagnostic Medical and Vascular Sonography is designed to prepare students to use ultrasound as a medical procedure to view internal organs for diagnostic purposes.
• Program Highlights
• The program provides didactic, lab scanning and clinical instruction in abdominal, gynecological, obstetrical, superficial structures, and non-invasive vascular imaging. Upon completion of this LSCS program, graduates may apply to take the credentialing exams.
• Credentials and Careers
• The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a five-semester program comprised of 65 credit hours.
• This program is designed to prepare graduates for employment in the healthcare industry in the sonography profession.
• Transferability
• General education courses (Core) are designated for easy transfer to Texas public institutions and applicable to requirements at private and out-of-state institutions.
• Technical coursework may be transferrable to other institutions.

• Students must complete the following courses, with a grade of C or better, prior to submission of an application to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program:
• ENGL 1301 - Composition & Rhetoric I,
• MATH 1314 - College Algebra,
• PHYS 1410 - Elementary Physics,
• BIOL 2404 - Intro to Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 2404 must be within 5 years) Note: BIOL 2401 - Human Anatomy & Physiology I and BIOL 2402 - Human Anatomy & Physiology II (Both courses must be within 5 years) can be substituted for BIOL 2404. PHYS 1401 may be substituted for the PHYS course requirement.

• This award requires 65 credit hours in total.
• Lone Star College reports 2544 contact hours for this award.
• Where the course list shows "Choose N credit hours", those courses are the options for one elective slot, not additional requirements.

• Prepare student in theory component to prepare for registry in the following content areas: sonographic principles and instrumentation, Ob/Gyn, Abdomen.
• Prepare students for entry-level scanning protocols for abdominal and ob/gyn skills.
• Prepare students for entry-level professional behaviors in a healthcare setting.

• Tuition shown is the in-district rate of $111.00 per credit hour for 65 credit hours.
• Out-of-district Texas residents pay $249.00 per credit hour ($16,185.00); international and out-of-state students pay $313.00 per credit hour ($20,345.00).
• Lab fees vary by course and liability insurance, uniforms and supplies vary by program, so Lone Star College publishes no all-in total for this award. Tuition above excludes them.
• Financial aid and payment plans are available to most students.
• Application fee: none. Lone Star College applications are free.

Professionals performing these examinations are known as sonographers. Upon completion of this LSCS program, graduates are eligible to take credentialing exams.

• Consequences of Criminal Conviction

• If you are applying for admission to a College program or enrolling in a College program that may prepare you for an initial occupational license issued by a Licensing authority and/or if you later decide to change to a program that prepares you for an occupational license, please be advised of the following:
• An individual who has been convicted of an offense may be ineligible for issuance of an occupational license upon completion of the educational program.
• Licensing authorities that issue an occupational license to an individual who completes the educational program issue guidelines stating the reasons a particular crime is considered to relate to a particular occupational license and any other criterion that affects the decisions of the licensing authority.
• A state licensing authority that issues guidelines files those guidelines with the secretary of state for publication in the Texas Register.
• Local or county licensing authorities that issue an occupational license to an individual who completes the educational program issue guidelines related to criminal history and post the guidelines at the courthouse of the county in which the licensing authority is located or publish them in a newspaper having countrywide circulation in that county.
• Applicants should contact their respective local or county licensing authority for more details.
• An individual may request a criminal history evaluation letter regarding the personal eligibility for a license issued by a licensing authority as required by Texas Occupation Code § 53.102.
• All applicants to and enrollees are encouraged to review all applicable eligibility requirements related to the respective occupational license. Questions related to eligibility requirements should be directed to the applicable licensing authority.
