Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) (ATC)

• The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRIT) program is a 12-month post-associate degree program that provides didactic and clinical instruction to currently certified American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and state licensed (as applicable) Radiation Therapy Technologists .

• Credentials and Careers
• The courses provide didactic and clinical education on how to operating MRI machines and the technologist's essential role in helping rule out medical conditions. This certification will prepare students to make an application to sit for the post-primary certification examination in Magnetic Resonance Imaging administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) pending review and approval by ARRT.
• MRIT graduates are employed in medical centers, community hospitals, specialty clinics and other healthcare institutions.
• Transferability
• MRIT program technical coursework are non-transferable.

• Students currently enrolled in a JRCERT accredited school may apply. At a minimum, the associate’s degree must be awarded prior to admission and the ARRT primary certification registry examination must be passed within 6 weeks of enrollment or the student may be administratively withdrawn from the program. A student will not be eligible for clinical placement if the registry examination has not been passed. Limited-MRTs, LVNs, LPNs, Medical Assistant and similar Para-professional credentials are not eligible to apply for this program.
• Apply for admission to Lone Star College and submit official transcripts from all colleges and allied health programs previously attended.
• Applications are received directly from the MRI program director. (program director office HSC - 1 room 117S)
• Submit the following materials to the LSC-CyFair MRI program director office (HSC -1 room 117S) before the end of the application period. The application packet will be dated and time stamped when received: Printed and signed application, copy of qualifying certification (ARRT, AART(T) or NMTCB) credentials.
• Copy of state license to practice as applicable. In states that do not have MRT licensure ARRT certification is sufficient.
• Copy of program degree-plan declaring a major in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology (MRIT).
• A letter of intent to apply to the MRI program, two professional letters of reference. One should be from a former Program Director, Clinical Coordinator or college educator and one from a current or former employment supervisor.

• Prerequisite: Students currently enrolled in a JRCERT accredited school may apply; however at a minimum the associate degree must be awarded prior to admission and the ARRT primary certification registry examination must be passed within 6 weeks of enrollment or the student may be administratively withdrawn from the program.
• This award requires 19 credit hours in total.
• Lone Star College reports 768 contact hours for this award.

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) students will demonstrate readiness to successfully complete (pass at first attempt) the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national certification/ credentialing examination in MRI.
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) students will summarize the value of professional development and life-long learning.

• Tuition shown is the in-district rate of $111.00 per credit hour for 19 credit hours.
• Out-of-district Texas residents pay $249.00 per credit hour ($4,731.00); international and out-of-state students pay $313.00 per credit hour ($5,947.00).
• Lab fees vary by course and liability insurance, uniforms and supplies vary by program, so Lone Star College publishes no all-in total for this award. Tuition above excludes them.
• Financial aid and payment plans are available to most students.
• Application fee: none. Lone Star College applications are free.

This program will prepare students to make an application to sit for the post-primary certification examination in Magnetic Resonance Imaging administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) pending review and approval by ARRT.

Final acceptance into the program is contingent upon a satisfactory background check (as required by hospitals) that is completed by a college approved agency at the student's expense. A background check may need to be re-accomplished if requested by the clinical facility.
