Program Overview
- The course of study for a radiologic technologist is a two-year program, leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree. The program is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills to perform radiographic examinations, provide patient care, and assist the radiologist during diagnostic procedures.
- Program Highlights
- State of the art laboratories and equipment give the student a safe space to practice their technical skills. Supervised clinical experiences at local hospitals and outpatient clinics allow for refinement of their clinical skills. This combination provides the student an opportunity for educational development and assurance of competency in radiographic skills.
- The curriculum is a balance of general education and technical courses in the classroom taught by experienced and dedicated faculty. The program is offered at LSC-Montgomery and LSC-CyFair. Each college accepts one class each year into the radiologic technology program. The six-semester program includes two summer semesters, for a total of 63 credit hours.
- Credentials and Careers
- Graduates of the programs are effectively prepared for entry-level positions in the medical radiologic technology profession. Radiologic technologists are employed in medical centers, community hospitals, extended care facilities, physicians' offices, specialist clinics, and other health care institutions.

- General education courses (Core) are designated for easy transfer to Texas public institutions and applicable to requirements at private and out-of-state institutions.

Admission Requirements and Process
- Prerequisite Course - BIOL 2404 (or completion of both BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402)

- Bacterial Meningitis immunization
- All applicants are required each application year to take the HESI HP exam. The exam will be available starting every October and close the following October. The exam is $65.00 which will be paid directly to Elsevier. Instructions on how to register to take the exam are found on LSC Cy-Fair and Montgomery testing center webpages.

- Demonstrate readiness to successfully complete (pass) the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Certification / Credentialing examination at first attempt.
- Demonstrate acceptable knowledge of radiation dose calculations and unit conversions in RADR 2313 Radiobiology and Radiation Protection.

- Demonstrate proficiency in entry-level (diagnostic imaging) clinical skills.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving ability.

- Out-of-district Texas residents pay $249.00 per credit hour ($15,687.00); international and out-of-state students pay $313.00 per credit hour ($19,719.00).
- Lab fees vary by course and liability insurance, uniforms and supplies vary by program, so Lone Star College publishes no all-in total for this award. Tuition above excludes them.

Licensure and Certification

Background Check
Final acceptance into the program is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and drug screen (as required by hospitals) that is completed by a college approved agency at the student's expense. Upon acceptance into the program, prospective students must provide a complete background check and drug screening, as well as complete all the required immunizations prior to their first clinical semester. The background check is at the student's expense. All employers require a background check prior to hiring a new employee.
