Automotive Service Technician (CERT1)

• The Automotive Technology program students will study the mechanical, electrical/electronic and environmental systems of the contemporary automobile and light truck. The program is available at the LSC-North Harris campus and at the LSC-Montgomery Conroe Center, and is the starting foundation of a career in the automotive field; from working in a quick lube or tire shop, to owning and running a major dealership.
• Program Highlights
• The LSC-North Harris automotive technology program has been reviewed by the ASE Education Foundation and was recently recertified by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Labs at each location are fully-equipped with the most up-to-date tools and diagnostic testing equipment. The student is prepared and is encouraged to take the appropriate ASE certification tests.
• Credentials and Careers
• The Automotive Service Technician level I certificate prepares the individual for basic, entry-level employment in the automotive service industry. The program provides course work specializing in basic automotive electrical systems, brakes, and the steering and suspension that affect vehicle control and safety of the contemporary automobile and light truck.
• The Automotive Service Technician level II certificate better prepares the individual for basic, entry-level employment in the automotive service industry. This program adds essentials of chassis and drivability, as well as power train, mechanical, electrical, and environmental systems of the contemporary automobile and light truck and are major components of the program.
• The Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science degree is designed to provide the broad academic and technical education and training necessary to function in today’s automotive service industry. The graduate will be well prepared for entry-level employment as a career technician within dealership service departments or other major retail or service firms.
• Transferability
• Program graduates may further their education at Lone Star College by applying to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy, Manufacturing, and Trades Management.
• General education courses (Core) are designated for easy transfer to Texas public institutions and applicable to requirements at private and out-of-state institutions.
• Technical coursework may be transferrable to other institutions.

• L1C-PLO2- Demonstrate knowledge and diagnosis of automotive electrical, brakes, and suspension and steering systems repair.
• L2C-PLO3- Demonstrate electronic theory skills in assessing and diagnosing computer module-based automotive repairs.
• L2C-PLO4- Demonstrate skills to identify and diagnose engines, transmissions, and other mechanical devices.
• AAS-PLO5- Perform the duties of an entry-level automotive technician.
