Medical Assisting (CERT1)

• Lone Star College's Medical Assistant Program prepares students as multiskilled health professionals specifically educated to work in a variety of healthcare settings performing clinical and administrative duties. The practice of medical assisting necessitates mastery of a complex body of knowledge and specialized skills requiring both formal education and practical experience that serve as standards for entry into the profession. The program is committed to excellence in preparing medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
• Program Highlights
• The Medical Assisting Program is a Nationally Accredited Program, which allows students to sit and take the CMA (AAMA) exam after graduation. Program graduates have exceptional pass and employment rates. Credentials and Careers
• The medical assisting certificate is a three-semester program. The final semester includes both a review course to prepare for the American Association of Medical Assistants™ Certified Medical Assistant Exam and a clinical/practicum. The clinical experience allows students to apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities learned in the classroom and gain practical experience in a health care setting.
• Career opportunities include working in ambulatory care, physician’s offices, and urgent care centers.

• Final acceptance into the Medical Assistant Program is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and drug screening (as required by clinical facilities), which will be completed by an approved agency at the student's expense.
• Information Session attendance is mandatory. A program application will be available at the session.
• All aspects of the program are explained in detail including a breakdown of each course, time requirements, dress code, cost, and how to complete the application packet. It also showcases our wonderful state-of-the-art Medical Assistant Lab and an opportunity to meet the Program Director.
• Please be advised that the application MUST be filled out in its entirety EXCEPT for the physical examination, which will be collected at the New Student Orientation.
• You must apply to the college and submit all transcripts to the college.

• Lone Star College reports 1040 contact hours for this award.
• Where the course list shows "Choose N credit hours", those courses are the options for one elective slot, not additional requirements.

• Tuition shown is the in-district rate of $111.00 per credit hour for 39 credit hours.
• Out-of-district Texas residents pay $249.00 per credit hour ($9,711.00); international and out-of-state students pay $313.00 per credit hour ($12,207.00).
• Lab fees vary by course and liability insurance, uniforms and supplies vary by program, so Lone Star College publishes no all-in total for this award. Tuition above excludes them.
• Financial aid and payment plans are available to most students.
• Application fee: none. Lone Star College applications are free.

Graduates from the accredited Medical Assisting Program and Lone Star College are eligible to sit for the CMA (AAMA) exam through the American Association of Medical Assistants. They are also eligible to take the RMA (AMT) through the American Medical Technologists.

All applicants to the program must undergo a background check through our current vendor, Castle Branch. Instructions provided to prospective students as part of the application process. The background check is at the student's expense.
