- The Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology is transferable into related bachelor's degrees.

- Be cleared by your doctor Physical Examination Form . Must be turned in to the director before the 1st day of class and cannot be older than 90 days from the start of the academy.
- Submit background check before acceptance into the academy and cannot be older than 90 days from the start of the class.

Licensure and Certification
- Upon completion of the requirements for the Basic Structural Firefighter, Level 1 Certificate, the graduate is eligible to take the TCFP state exam for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Certificate, including Fire Fighter I,
- Fire Fighter II,
- Hazardous Materials Awareness, and
- Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Upon completion of the requirements for the Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology, the graduate is eligible to take an exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians to be certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician.
- Additional testing opportunities for certifications recognized by the TCFP are available by completion of additional FIRT courses.
Background Check
- Students must obtain a background check prior to entrance into the fire academy for all locations, at the student's expense.
- A separate background check must be completed per Texas Commission on Fire Protection rule to obtain certification.
