Dental Hygiene (AAS)

• Lone Star College (LSC) offers an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene at LSC-Kingwood. This program is designed for those interested in becoming a registered dental hygienist.

• The dental hygiene curriculum offered at LSC-Kingwood is a structured intense program with didactic and clinical practice taking place at the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus. External rotations are integrated into the curriculum for experiences outside of the school setting.
• Credentials and Careers
• The AAS in Dental Hygiene includes general education courses as a foundation for dental hygiene courses. Prerequisite courses are designed to allow the student an opportunity to experience the type of coursework that will be involved in the study of dental hygiene. The program is comprised of 68 credit hours and is completed in two years.
• Graduates are prepared to function in a variety of settings including private dental offices, dental clinics, or public dental health care clinics.

• Graduates of the Lone Star College – Kingwood Dental Hygiene program are eligible to sit for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and regional clinical board examinations which are required by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for licensure.
• Students are expected to be CPR certified, graduate from a CODA accredited program, submit fingerprinting and background checks, a National Practitioner Data Bank self query, Human Trafficking Course.

Criminal background check is required. Admission decision is contingent on a negative background check.

The dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of approved without reporting requirements. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
