Program Overview
- As a polysomnographic technologist, you will conduct the sleep studies that allow physicians to diagnose and treat patients suffering from sleep disorders, evaluate patient sleep data, and educate patients on their sleep disorders and how best to manage them.
- Program Highlights
- The Polysomnography program allows students to learn about sleep as a component of health, sleep disorders, and the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to become a sleep technologist. The curriculum includes courses in basic health profession skills, anatomy and physiology, sleep disorders, sleep medicine, polysomnographic technology and more. Students also learn about current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the field of technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student.
- Credentials and Careers
- Upon graduation from the award, the graduate is eligible to sit for the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists exam to become a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the American Board Sleep Medicine exam to become a Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).
Admission Requirements and Process
- Complete the following prerequisite courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or higher:
- BIOL 2404 - Intro to Anatomy and Physiology
- ENGL 1301 - Composition & Rhetoric I
- and one of the following: PSYC 2301 - General Psychology (3)
- SOCI 1301 - Principles of Sociology (3)
- SOCI 1306 - Social Problems (3)
- Must complete the Health Science Reasoning Test (HSRT) .
