Job placement assistance. Salon owners and entrepreneurs regularly come in to talk with students, and toward graduation staff work individually with every student on resumes and portfolios. Job postings go on the student bulletin board, and the school keeps a resume building center. The school cannot guarantee job placement; hiring is at the discretion of the employer.
What to expect as a Marketti Academy of Cosmetology student
Marketti Academy of Cosmetology is housed in a 10,000 square foot building, centrally located in Waterford, Michigan, with large classrooms for its cosmetology, manicure and esthetics programs. Class sizes are small so students get more one-on-one attention. The clinic floor accommodates 50 students, each with their own assigned station, and there is a student lounge for breaks and lunch and plenty of parking.
The academy uses both traditional and hands-on learning to suit different learning styles, teaching from the Milady Standard textbook and workbooks. Its mission is to give students a quality education and prepare them for careers, in an energetic atmosphere that brings out each student’s full potential.
The student clinic serves the public, including walk-in clients as time permits, using Redken, Joico, Pravana, Malibu, Olaplex and Design Essentials for hair; OPI, Gelish and ibd for nails; and Image Skin Care and Morphe Makeup for skin care. School closures for inclement weather follow Waterford School District.
Progress and attendance. Students must keep a grade average of at least 75% in theory and practical work and attend at least 67% of scheduled hours, and pass a final written and practical exam before graduation. Clock-in is by 8:37am; three tardies in a month can bring a meeting and a 3-day suspension.
Missed time. Every program carries a 10% missed-time allowance, a bank of extra hours for vacations or illness. Senior students may make up time from 3:30 to 4:30pm. A leave of absence of up to 180 calendar days in any 12 months may be approved; a student absent more than 14 days without one is dropped.
