Barbering

The catalog lists schedules of 50 weeks at 30 hours a week (Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm); 60 weeks at 25 hours (Tuesday to Saturday or Monday to Friday days, or Monday to Friday evenings 4:00 to 9:00 pm); and 75 weeks at 20 hours (Tuesday to Friday days 9:00 am to 2:00 pm or evenings 5:00 to 9:00 pm). The two 20-hour schedules are marked as currently available. Progress is evaluated at 450, 900 and 1,200 actual hours, and you must finish within 2,000 scheduled hours.

Satisfactory progress means at least 75% cumulative attendance and a 75% written grade average at each evaluation point. A student who falls short is placed on warning until the next evaluation; still short after that, they lose federal aid and are terminated unless they arrange to pay. Leaves of absence run 7 to 60 days, for medical, incarceration or administrative reasons, within 180 days in 12 months.

Cost of the programme. The catalog prices Barbering at $18,450 in total tuition and fees: $16,750 tuition, $1,600 for kits, books and supplies, and the $100 registration fee. Hours still needed after your calculated completion date are charged at $11.17 an hour, payable before graduation; attending make-up hours beforehand avoids the charge.

Paying for school. All fees and tuition are due on the first day of class unless other arrangements are made at enrollment; monthly payment plans are available, and the college accepts cash, checks, money orders, credit cards, Title IV loans and grants, and VA funding. For students who qualify it offers the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans and Parent PLUS loans; awards depend on your aid application and on satisfactory academic progress. The college does not offer scholarships. Neither the catalog nor the website publishes a federal school code; ask the financial aid office.

Other charges. Changing your attendance schedule costs $100 a change. Extra kit, book or supply items after the first issue cost the college's cost plus 50%. Re-enrolling costs a $200 application fee, applied to your charges. The college pays for your first state examination; retakes and the $40 state license fee are yours.

Cancelling and refunds. An applicant who is not accepted gets everything back. Cancel in writing within three business days of signing and all money is refunded, even if you have started; cancel later but before classes begin and you get everything back except the $100 registration fee. After you start, the college keeps a share of total tuition based on scheduled time: 20% up to 4.9%, 30% to 9.9%, 40% to 14.9%, 45% to 24.9%, 70% to 49.9%, and all of it from 50%. A student who withdraws or is terminated is charged a $150 termination fee, and kits, books and supplies are not refundable once issued. Refunds are paid within 45 days, and federal aid is returned first under the return of Title IV rules. Documented mitigating circumstances such as serious illness or a death in the family can bring a fair settlement.

The college prepares graduates for the licensing exam and entry-level work in barber shops and salons; experience can lead to manufacturer or distributor sales and education. Indiana licenses barbers who are 18 (or 17 with a diploma) with 1,500 hours, for a $44 exam fee and a $40 license fee. You must pass the state written and practical exams before Ravenscroft graduates you.

Published outcomes. The catalog reports the college's rates from its 2024 NACCAS annual report for all programmes together: a graduation rate of 73.24%, a job placement rate of 78.85% and a licensure rate of 100%.

Finding work. The college does not guarantee placement. It keeps a file of employers, accepts interview requests from businesses, and offers resume writing, portfolio building, training in professional appearance and salon ethics, guest speakers, introductions to business owners, current job postings, staff letters of recommendation, interview calls from the administration and job search skills. Guest artists and distributors also run advanced classes, free to students during college hours.

Ravenscroft Beauty College has trained beauty professionals in Fort Wayne since 1953 and moved to its current 24,000 square foot building at 4530 Lahmeyer Road in November 2013. It has two expanded clinic areas for students and patrons, two theory classrooms with big-screen TVs, a pre-clinic classroom where new cosmetology and barbering students learn the fundamentals away from the busy clinic floor, rooms for manicuring and skin care, a student lounge and offices for enrollment, advising, records and financial aid. Following a change of ownership announced to students in February 2025, the 2026 catalog names MAC&G Wellness Academy, LLC, a subsidiary of the company that runs Art22 Academy in Fort Wayne, as owner. All classes are in person and in English.

Attendance and the day. You clock in with your own number. New students in pre-clinic must keep 90% attendance. There is no tardiness: if you are not on the clock and in class by 9:00 am (days) or 5:00 pm (evenings) you cannot attend that day, and you must call the front desk before then whenever you will be absent. Saturdays are mandatory for day students and Fridays for night students. Full-time students get two 10-minute transitions a day and part-time students one, taken in the breakroom; students on six-hour days take a 30-minute lunch between 11:30 and 1:30. Missed hours can be made up the following week with approval, if you attended your full schedule the week before.

Rules and dress. The dress code is black pants, skirts or capris, a white shirt, white shoes with white soles, the school smock and a name tag, with hair and makeup done and no hats, denim or open-toed shoes. Phones stay off and in your locker while you are on the clock. Food, drink and gum are allowed only in the breakroom, and Indiana law bars students from practicing outside the college. Your kit stays at the college until you graduate.

Holidays. In 2026 the college closes January 1 to 4, March 30 and 31, May 21 to 25, June 19, July 4, September 5 to 7, November 26 to 28 and December 22 to 31.
