Program Overview

Upon successful completion of the Electron Microscopy - Materials Associate in Science degree, the student will demonstrate an understanding of the theory, operation, application and maintenance of the electron microscope. Students learn all specialized and advanced skills in microscopy-related instrumentation and associated sample preparation techniques which serve as a foundation for employment or additional study. The main focus will be placed on the ability to achieve high resolution imaging within all lines of microscope types available in the lab to better prepare students for various career opportunities in all sectors of fields related to microscopy. Integrated within this certificate is technical theory, applications, and hands-on experience with the most complicated of tool sets found within the industry, which emphasizes the use of the Focused Ion Beam system. All students will complete the degree with an expected level of comprehensive usage and understanding of various positions and opportunities that have no limit within the Microscopy field. Student qualifications for direct positions have no definite limitations. Electron Microscopy spans an industry that crosses 22+ sectors, whereby opportunities are endless.
