Pharmacy Technician

• Accredited by ASHP and ACPE. The Pharmacy Technician Program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This accredited program is offered at both campus locations.
• A fast track to CSPT certification. The Praxis Institute is a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (PTCB CSPT) education and training provider. As such, students can qualify for CSPT certification after only one year of full-time experience. Graduates of other schools require three years of full-time work before qualifying for this advanced credential.
• Ready for the PTCE. The Praxis Institute conducts Program Reviews to confirm graduates' readiness for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), and the program prepares students to become certified pharmacy technicians (CPhTs).
• A live externship. Students assist pharmacy technicians in a real-world working environment, gaining hands-on experience while building confidence. The externship also adds to the resume to improve employability after graduation.
• Weekly start dates and flexible scheduling make training accessible for working adults.

Admission procedure. Applicants for admission are encouraged to visit The Praxis Institute in person. At the time of the interview, the prospective student receives a comprehensive orientation to the chosen program, including its goals, objectives, school services, requirements, cost, and duration. The applicant also receives a comprehensive tour of the facilities and may attend a class for the day if desired.

Admission decision. Based on entrance criteria and any other circumstances that may apply to the admission process, approval for admission is granted or denied by the Campus Director. All copies of documents received in order to establish eligibility become the property of the school and are not returned to the student.

900 clock hours, about 11 months. The catalog lists the Pharmacy Technician program at 900 clock hours over 11 months, or 45 weeks: 510 lecture hours, 210 lab hours and 180 externship hours.

Weekly starts. Classes begin on Monday of each week.

Class hours. Classes are in session Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hybrid delivery. The program combines online theoretical classes, delivered through the Blackboard Web-based Learning System, with in-person lab training on campus and a live externship.

Language. The program may be offered in a language-assisted format; however, all instructional materials, including textbooks, PowerPoint presentations, class resources, medical terminology, and examinations, are provided in English only.

Class size. The Pharmacy Technician Program can have approximately 20 students.

Tuition and fees. The 2026-2027 catalog lists Pharmacy Technician tuition at $16,700 plus a $100.00 registration fee, a total of $16,800. Prices are subject to change, and the Admission Representative notifies the prospective student of any change.

Payment. Full payment is made in advance of the beginning of classes, or tuition and fee payments may be arranged on a weekly or monthly basis. Weekly payments are due on Monday; monthly payments are due between the 1st and 15th of the month. There are no additional carrying charges, interest, or service charges for installment plans. This payment schedule does not apply to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) or Pell Grant students.

Federal financial aid. The Praxis Institute is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in Title IV Financial Aid Programs. Students who need financial aid are encouraged to apply through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); aid includes the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, Federal Direct PLUS Loans for parents, and private student loans.

Eligibility. Potential students must first apply to The Praxis Institute and be accepted into a program, and students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive student aid.

Cancellation and refunds. All monies are refunded if the applicant is not accepted or cancels within three business days after signing the Enrollment Agreement and making initial payment. Cancellation after the third business day but before the first class results in a refund of all monies paid except the registration fee. Cancellation after attendance has begun, through 40 percent completion of the program, results in a pro rata refund based on the hours completed; after more than 40 percent of the program there is no refund.

Where graduates work. Pharmacy technicians may be employed in community pharmacies, hospitals, mail-service facilities, wholesale distributors, government agencies, educational institutions, or veterinary settings, always under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or veterinarian.

Registration in Florida. In accordance with Florida Statutes (Section 465.014, Title XXXII, Chapter 465), any individual seeking employment as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Florida must apply for registration with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

Career services. The Career Services Department serves as a bridge between the training programs and a new career, with career counseling and coaching, help with resumes and cover letters, interview practice, workshops and job fairs, and a network of local employers built over more than 20 years. Upon graduation, students receive the full benefit of The Praxis Institute's placement services without additional charges, but employment is not guaranteed.

Founded in 1988. The Praxis Institute was founded in 1988 as America Duran Skin Care, Massage & Nail School, a private vocational school, and was renamed The Praxis Institute after a change in ownership in 1999. A second campus opened in Hialeah in 2003. Its mission is to provide quality training to the community, leading to employment.

Miami campus. The Miami campus occupies approximately 16,335 square feet with classrooms, labs, a library, a student lounge, a reception area and administrative offices. It is centrally located, with easy access to Interstate 95, the 826 and 836 freeways and the Metrobus, and provides ample free parking.

Hialeah campus. The Hialeah campus is on the second floor of Hialeah Square Shopping Center, in the northwest area of Miami-Dade County. It occupies approximately 10,000 square feet with classrooms, labs, a library, a student lounge, a reception area and administrative offices, and has adequate lighted parking.

The pharmacy lab. The Pharmacy Technician Laboratory features modern instructional tools such as videos, audiovisual systems, and pharmacy simulation software. The laboratories are designed to mirror real pharmacy environments, complete with computers and specialized software that simulate hospital and community pharmacy workflows.

Advisory Board. The institute uses an Advisory Board, which meets formally each year, to gather ideas and expertise for the development, expansion and revision of its programs.
