Installation, service and maintenance technicians can get their start by enrolling in the ten-month Electromechanical Technologies program offered at the TWS campuses of Tulsa, Jacksonville, Houston and Phoenix.

Along with HVAC/R, our Electromechanical Technologies program teaches the fundamentals of electricity, residential and commercial wiring, comfort systems, solar energy technology, and provides an overview of photovoltaic (PV) science.

From the 2026–2027 School Catalog. The Electro-Mechanical Technologies (EMT) program contains nine (9) courses, 38 weeks, and 36 semester credit hours. The objective of the EMT program is to train and prepare students for entry as service and maintenance technicians in jobs that utilize technologies employed in the fields of air conditioning (both heating and cooling), and refrigeration. Students completing this program should have an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and will have practical exposure to diagnosing, servicing and repairing common types of problems in related equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Diploma.

Admission Requirements and Process

Admission requirements. An applicant shall meet certain requirements prior to full admittance and enrollment into an academic program. These requirements are derived from a combination of accreditation, state, and federal requirements to solidify the importance and determination of a student’s ability to successfully complete the applicable programs.

General Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
    Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • High school graduation or equivalent
    Be a high school graduate with a standard or higher-level diploma; or possess a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or high school equivalency; or proof of eligible home school program.
  • Age
    Be at least 18 years of age or older. Applicants who have already earned their high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency may enroll if they have met their state's Compulsory Age Requirements, or exemptions. Applicants under the age of 18 must sign the Enrollment Agreement jointly with parent, guardian, or guarantor.
  • English language
    Be able to understand, read, and write in the English language (all course materials and instruction will be provided in English).
  • Entrance interview
    Complete an entrance interview with a school official.
  • Enrollment agreement
    Complete review and execution of an enrollment agreement.
  • Government-issued identification
    Provide government issued identification.
  • Hybrid and distance education readiness
    Possess working knowledge of a basic device (such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer), regular accessibility to a device, and internet connectivity. Before enrollment, prospective students complete an online enrollment process designed to verify the technical skills, computer competency, and access to the equipment, internet connectivity, and technology needed for distance education courses.

Military Pricing (MTP) is 90% of Tuition Price. The registration fee is due at time of enrollment. TWS requires students to purchase accident insurance as part of their program costs; this is a secondary (supplemental) accident insurance policy that only covers accidents while students are in class, and it is not a health insurance plan.

Financial aid. Financial aid available to those who qualify.

Federal grants. Federal grants are often called “gift aid” because they don’t have to be repaid once you complete the program; grants are typically awarded based on financial need.

Scholarships. Scholarships are another form of “gift aid”, but they’re usually merit-based. This means students must meet certain qualifications in order to be considered for an award.

Military benefits. Funding to help with the cost of trade school is available to active duty, reserve and veterans under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Reserve GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB).

In 1965, the Tulsa Welding School (TWS) Phoenix Campus started out as a Phoenix, AZ trade school specializing in HVAC and Refrigeration career training only. Since then, we’ve expanded to include career programs for Welding and Electrical/Electrical-Mechanic technologies.

The TWS Phoenix campus is located in the Phoenix metropolitan area and includes 26,000 square feet of training facilities, including classrooms, labs, support services, and shops.
