The Associate of Occupational Studies in Welding Technology (AOSWT) degree program at Tulsa Welding School is designed for students who want to master every stage of the welding process, from hands-on fabrication to quality control and assurance procedures.

Program Overview

This comprehensive 14-month program provides a complete welding education from foundational techniques to advanced inspection and quality management.   • Learn and complete 25+ welds on pipe and plate, following AWS specifications.
  • Train on Pad, Groove, Fillet, and Branch welds.
  • Study Basic Metallurgy and Destructive Testing principles.
  • Practice Advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, including:
  • Visual & Leak Testing
  • Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Testing
  • Radiographic Testing
  • Eddy Current and Ultrasonic Testing

From the 2026–2027 School Catalog. The Associate of Occupational Studies in Welding Technology (AOSWT) program consists of two academic years containing a total of 60 weeks and 60 semester credit hours. The first academic year of this program consists of all courses within the Professional Welder program (25 semester credit hours), which prepares a graduate for entry level positions in structural, pipe, and thin alloy and/or pipeline welding. The second academic year is directed toward course material for job entry as a Welding Quality Assurance/Quality Control Inspector (WQA/QCI) containing 35 semester credit hours. Each course shall be four days a week and will consist of three weeks. The campus has not yet sought approval from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) for this program. Therefore, this program is not approved by TWC at this time. Upon successful completion, students will receive an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Welding Technology.

Admission Requirements and Process

Admission requirements. An applicant shall meet certain requirements prior to full admittance and enrollment into an academic program. These requirements are derived from a combination of accreditation, state, and federal requirements to solidify the importance and determination of a student’s ability to successfully complete the applicable programs.

General Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
    Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • High school graduation or equivalent
    Be a high school graduate with a standard or higher-level diploma; or possess a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or high school equivalency; or proof of eligible home school program.
  • Age
    Be at least 18 years of age or older. Applicants who have already earned their high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency may enroll if they have met their state's Compulsory Age Requirements, or exemptions. Applicants under the age of 18 must sign the Enrollment Agreement jointly with parent, guardian, or guarantor.
  • English language
    Be able to understand, read, and write in the English language (all course materials and instruction will be provided in English).
  • Entrance interview
    Complete an entrance interview with a school official.
  • Enrollment agreement
    Complete review and execution of an enrollment agreement.
  • Government-issued identification
    Provide government issued identification.
  • Hybrid and distance education readiness
    Possess working knowledge of a basic device (such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer), regular accessibility to a device, and internet connectivity. Before enrollment, prospective students complete an online enrollment process designed to verify the technical skills, computer competency, and access to the equipment, internet connectivity, and technology needed for distance education courses.
  • Welding physical requirements
    Applicants must have good eyesight with corrective lenses, if needed, and be capable of dealing with the physical requirements in the welding profession such as lifting and necessary body motions. Self-attestation and identification of vision and physical constraints is expected.
  • Associate degree programs
    Students pursuing an associate degree program must have a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency. Graduates who left the school after completing a program and later wish to enroll in an associate degree program must be in good financial standing with the school.

Military Pricing (MTP) is 90% of Tuition Price. The registration fee is due at time of enrollment. TWS requires students to purchase accident insurance as part of their program costs; this is a secondary (supplemental) accident insurance policy that only covers accidents while students are in class, and it is not a health insurance plan.

Financial aid. Financial aid available to those who qualify.

Federal grants. Federal grants are often called “gift aid” because they don’t have to be repaid once you complete the program; grants are typically awarded based on financial need.

Scholarships. Scholarships are another form of “gift aid”, but they’re usually merit-based. This means students must meet certain qualifications in order to be considered for an award.

Military benefits. Funding to help with the cost of trade school is available to active duty, reserve and veterans under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Reserve GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB).
