Ranken’s Control Systems Technology (CST) program produces skilled electricians. Students enrolled in the program will be trained in the following: • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) • Variable frequency motor drives • Calibration • Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) • Automation Control Technology • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)

In a world that is increasingly becoming more advanced, the need for students that have a trade in automation is in high demand. This program starts out with the fundamental understanding of electricity and leads to a solid understanding of automation. Students learn how instrumentation, computer systems and robots are used to make everyday products in an automated manufacturing facility. Students will learn the skills to implement, program and troubleshoot these systems.

Note: Students have the opportunity to earn dual degrees in Electrical Automation Technology or Mechanical Automation Technology by adding an additional semester. Students can earn all three degrees in as little as 6 semesters. Programs are location specific.

Career Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to: • Construct electrical circuits utilizing National Electrical Code guidelines. • Create and interpret drawings used in automated control systems. • Install, calibrate, and program equipment used to measure and control; temperature, level, pressure and flow rate used in food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, utilities and other manufacturing facilities.

Graduates typically enter the field as calibration, electrical, or maintenance technicians that specialize in PLCs, FANUC robots, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. These systems and equipment are typically found in pharmaceutical plants, manufacturing plants, food processing plants, chemical plants, refineries and breweries.
